On Saturday August 30th 2025, the multitalented indie musician and songwriter d4vd played an explosive sold out show at History in Toronto. As part of his Withered tour, he brought along New York based pop rock band Laundry Day.
Judging from their stage presence alone, I could tell that Laundry Day was very inspired by groups like Brockhampton and Tyler, the Creator. Quirky, fun and polished, their energy was electrifying as the crowd danced in excitement to songs like "SUPERMODEL" and "APEROL SPRITZ".
Having known them solely from their TikTok videos, I was pleasantly surprised at how polished and groovy they were. They had originally given me the energy of a New viral Yorker comedian troupe that just happened to have a bunch of viral videos with other musicians. But in just a few songs, they made me a fan that was dancing in the photo pit. I especially loved it when I realized Sawyer Nunes was effortlessly singing and drumming at the same time.
Shortly after, d4vd emerged on stage in chunky white shoes, distressed dark jeans and bright bleached hair that I didn't expect to see. The raving crowds reveled and sang along to his songs like "What Are You Waiting For" and settled in the emotional dust of songs like "Backstreet Girl" and "Crashing".
As a short break between songs, d4vd gave out Labubus to the audience to the tune of Laufey's "From the Start". Later, he also brought out Canadian singer-songwriter RealestK to perform an unreleased track called "Best Friend". His voice was stunning to hear live and I'm excited to dive into more of his music, especially knowing that we're both from Scarborough.
His charisma and talent shone brightly, effortlessly belting vocals and dancing around on stage. Like Laundry Day, his show at History shows that he's a fantastic performer and entertainer. His expertise in keeping the crowd's energy high even during his slower tracks and even lightening the mood with things like shouting out Hyunjin stans and the K-pop group Stray Kids between songs. He ended off his show with the entire audience singing along to his sentimental power ballad "Romantic Homicide" and also a brief encore of Travis Scott's "FE!N".
